Flaxseed is a plant-based food that provides healthful fat, antioxidants, and fiber. Some people call it a “functional food,” which means that a person can eat it to boost their health.

People grew flax as a crop in ancient Egypt and China. In Asia, it has had a role in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.

Uses of flaxseeds:-

1. It promotes weight loss :-Flax seeds are rich in fiber. When you eat foods that are high in fiber, you feel full for longer. This can help suppress your desire to eat if you’re cutting calories for weight loss. Additionally, your digestive tract is stimulated by foods rich in fiber.

2.Gluten free :- flaxseed is gluten-free. Because they contain Omega-3 fats, these foods help reduce inflammation not just in the body but also in the bones. Flaxseed may also be used to make gluten-free baked items, which many bakers find appealing.

3.Constipation

Flaxseed is a good source of dietary fiber. Eating flaxseed in muffins or other foods seems to increase bowel movement  in young adults and people with diabetes.

4. Diabetes

Taking flaxseed by mouth might slightly improve blood sugar control in people with type2 Diabetes . Benefits seem to be greatest with whole or ground flaxseed and when used for at least 12 weeks.

Side Effects

When taken by mouth: Flaxseed is likely safe for most adults. Adding flaxseed to the diet might increase the number of bowel movements each day. It might also cause side effects such as bloating, gas, stomachache, and nausea. Higher doses are likely to cause more side effects.

Taking flaxseed extracts that contain lignans is possibly safe. Flaxseed lignan extracts can be used safely for up to 6 months.
